Ilham Aliyev receives OIC Secretary General Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed; Netherlands to invest $1.3 billion in Azerbaijan

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on 26 October. The meeting took place after Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed's election as Secretary General at the OIC summit.
Ilham Aliyev noted the importance of the visit and described it as a reflection of the strong partnership between Azerbaijan and the OIC. He recalled that Azerbaijan has always been an active member of the organisation and intends to continue this work. According to the head of state, a number of political, economic and sports events have been held in the country within the framework of the OIC.
Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan will host the OIC summit next year, and preparations for it are already under way. He also noted that the Islamic Solidarity Games were well organised in Azerbaijan.
The President said that Azerbaijan will continue to do everything necessary to strengthen Islamic solidarity, mutual understanding between religions and cultures, as well as security and stability.
Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed thanked the President for his reception and for his support of the OIC's activities. He said that, after his election, the first of his trips would be to Azerbaijan, and he noted that Gensek had visited the country several times and welcomed the development he had seen in Azerbaijan. He also congratulated the country on its achievements.
Speaking to Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed, he said he intends to activate work with Azerbaijan at the OIC to further strengthen the organisation's international influence and advance Islamic solidarity.
Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed respectfully recalled National Leader Heydar Aliyev and his contribution to developing relations between Azerbaijan and the OIC. He also stressed the vital role of Azerbaijan in the Islamic world and in strengthening Islamic solidarity.
Ismail Ulku Sheikh Ahmed noted that Azerbaijan has fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and congratulated the head of state on the upcoming Victory Day. He also expressed support for the efforts of the President of Azerbaijan to establish peace in the region.
During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation in the media sphere within the OIC framework, stressed the importance of joint efforts by member states in countering disinformation, and exchanged views on projects to be implemented during Azerbaijan's chairmanship.
