Baku Hosts First Congress of Turkic World Composers
Baku hosted the First Congress of Composers of the Turkic World as part of the 18th Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival. Participants discussed joint projects and prospects for cooperation in music.

Baku hosted the First Congress of Composers of the Turkic World as part of the 18th Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival. The event was attended by heads of composers' organisations from Turkic states, musicologists, cultural figures and media representatives.
Deputy Culture Minister Murad Huseynov said the congress is an international platform for bringing together creative potential, supporting young authors and promoting the rich musical heritage of the Turkic world. According to him, the event should contribute to the emergence of new ideas and works, as well as the development of long-term creative cooperation.
Chairwoman of the Composers' Union Firangiz Alizadeh noted that the aim of the congress is to establish a union of composers and a coordinating body for the Turkic world to bring together composers and music professionals. She stressed the need to pay particular attention to the development of academic music and the promotion of composers' works on the world's leading stages.
Abdulhakim Alsenan, Director of the Regional Office of UNESCO in Azerbaijan, said that one of the tasks is to create new bridges in culture and science. He noted Uzeyir Hajibeyli's importance in shaping Azerbaijan's modern musical identity and stressed the role of cultural heritage in preserving identity and developing dialogue among peoples.
Artyk Tokansanbaev, Chairman of the Association of Composers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, proposed creating a catalogue of contemporary Turkic music. According to him, this would make it possible to promote composers' works more effectively internationally through cooperation with publishing houses, festivals, agencies and licensing organisations.
Rustam Abdullaev, Chairman of the Composers' Union of Uzbekistan and Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan, said that 28 concerts featuring well-known Azerbaijani performers were held in Uzbekistan in 2022–2026. He also announced plans for new joint concerts and support for young composers and performers.
The congress continued with discussions on joint projects by Turkic states in the field of music and prospects for further cooperation.
