Johnny Depp to Present First Sculpture at Istanbul Art Fair

Johnny Depp will present his own sculpture to the public for the first time at the Contemporary Istanbul art fair in Istanbul. The two-metre white bronze figure will be displayed from September 22 to 27 on the grounds of Tersane Istanbul, a former Ottoman shipyard.

The work is titled The Bunnyman. The sculpture depicts an unusual character combining human and rabbit features. Behind its back is what is known as the “Sword of Truth.”

The concept for the work emerged from a drawing that the actor’s son Jack made at the age of five. The drawing reminded Depp of a recurring dream from his childhood. The character later began appearing in the actor’s drawings, paintings and prints before being realized as a sculpture.

The “Bunnyman” will be placed under the open sky on the shore of the Golden Horn. The presentation will take place at the same time as Depp’s exhibition of artworks A Bunch of Stuff at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art, where more than 200 of his works will be presented.
