The Investigative Committee of Russia said Russian investigators will give a legal assessment of the desecration of a monument to Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev in the Slovak Republic. The agency reported this.
According to investigators, the Konev monument, erected to commemorate the liberation of Czechoslovakia, was covered with red paint applied to it. Responsibility for the action was claimed by one of the extra-parliamentary parties. Its representatives promised to demand the removal of the monument after the elections.
Head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin instructed the central apparatus of the agency, together with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
The Konev monument was installed on 3 October in the village of Krużlová in the Svidník district in north-eastern Slovakia. Soviet troops there carried out the Carpathian-Dukla offensive operation under Konev's command.
