Narendra Modi held a video call with Indian Flydubai pilot Smit Matchchar, who was seriously injured while preventing a major aviation disaster. The pilot said he fought for his life and, showing courage, saved 170 passengers.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Captain Smit Matchchar, the Indian Flydubai pilot who suffered serious injuries while preventing a major aviation disaster.
During the video call, Modi praised the captain's courage, stressing that it was precisely this that helped save many lives, and wished him a speedy recovery.
Matchchar, who is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in the UAE, shared his personal experience and explained what gave him resolve. According to him, he fought for his life and understood that if he did not show courage, 170 passengers could have died.
The pilot admitted that in the most difficult minutes he repeated "Hanuman Chalisa," a prayer hymn.
On Thursday, Modi also spoke with the pilot's wife and parents, assuring them of the full support of Indian missions, which will be provided to Matchchar and his family.
Matchchar apologized to the Prime Minister for not holding back his emotions during the conversation, and said he never thought he would have the opportunity to speak with the head of government.
Earlier, Modi had already called Matchchar a hero.
