Turkey investigates TV series ‘Valley of the Wolves: Ambush’ in connection with ex-intelligence officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu’s death

The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the television series 'Valley of the Wolves: Ambush' (Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu) over allegations of organizational propaganda. The procedural actions are being conducted as part of the investigation into the suspicious death of former National Intelligence Organization (MİT) officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who died in prison in 2011.
Details of the case were previously disclosed by Turkish Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek. Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who was detained in Silivri L-Type Closed Penal Execution Institution No. 1, fell ill on November 12, 2011. After being transported to the Silivri State Hospital, doctors pronounced him dead. The initial investigation, which included reviewing video recordings, medical documents, and witness interviews, concluded on April 10, 2012, with a decision not to prosecute.
However, the Cold Case Investigation Department conducted a re-analysis of the materials. Based on the prosecution's evaluations, the Silivri Peace Court on Criminal Matters overturned the decision to close the proceedings and reopened the case on August 26, 2026. A special investigative team was established to fully determine the causes of Kozinoğlu's death and check for potential third-party interference, and a confidentiality order was placed on the case files.
As part of the reopened investigation, investigative actions began against 11 staff members who worked at the correctional facility at the time of the incident. Ten people were detained, while one was declared wanted as an overseas fugitive linked to FETÖ. Of the ten detainees, one was remanded in custody and nine were released, seven of them under judicial control.
Later, law enforcement officers detained nine more suspects, including one reporter, one cameraman, and seven medical workers. Following interrogations and consideration of motions, the court arrested three suspects, including the reporter. The remaining six suspects, including the cameraman, were placed under judicial control measures and banned from leaving the country.
In total, the number of arrested individuals in the case reached four, while 13 suspects are under judicial control. In addition, as part of the investigation, the screenwriters of the series 'Valley of the Wolves', Raci Şaşmaz, Bahadır Özdener, and Cüneyt Aysan, gave testimony as knowledgeable persons.
