Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting in Beijing with US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns. The parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their development.
During the talks, Wang Yi stated that under the guidance of the heads of state, both sides are working to build constructive, strategic, and stable relations. According to the minister, peaceful coexistence based on mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the expectations of the international community.
At the same time, the head of the Chinese foreign policy agency acknowledged that relations between Beijing and Washington still face a number of risks and challenges. Wang Yi emphasized the need to implement the agreements reached by the state leaders, focus on a positive agenda, and properly manage existing differences.
Wang Yi also described the May visit of US President Donald Trump to China as "very successful."
Against the backdrop of diplomatic contacts, tensions remain in the financial sphere. Previously, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent did not rule out the possibility of imposing sanctions on Chinese banks. He stated that financial institutions would become targets if they facilitate transactions related to the sale of Iranian oil and become part of an ecosystem that provides funding for repression.
