It marks the 108th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from the occupation of Armenian Dashnak and Bolshevik forces. On September 15, 1918, soldiers of the Caucasus Army of Islam and the Azerbaijan Corps successfully completed military operations and entered the city.
The liberation of Baku played a crucial role in strengthening the foundations of statehood for the young Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Restoring control over the city, which served as an economic and political center, demonstrated national resolve and provided a major impetus to the country's future path toward independence.
The Caucasus Army of Islam and the Joint Struggle
In the battles for the city, soldiers and officers from Azerbaijan and Turkey fought side by side. The occupation was brought to an end as a result of the military operation conducted jointly by the Caucasus Army of Islam and Azerbaijani national forces.
A large number of servicemen lost their lives in this liberation campaign, which was carried out under severe military and political conditions. The victory of September 15 is regarded as one of the key turning points in the history of Azerbaijan's independence.
