Azerbaijan may be tasked with a mediation mission for COP31
Azerbaijan is being considered as a potential mediator to find compromises at COP31 following its successful experience at the previous conference in Brazil.

Azerbaijan may receive a mandate to facilitate the achievement of additional agreements within the framework of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31). This was announced by Mukhtar Babayev, the representative of the President of Azerbaijan for climate issues.
According to Babayev, the country has already demonstrated effective mediation skills at COP30 in Brazil, where the Azerbaijani side took on the implementation of a number of tasks. Azerbaijan's efforts contributed to reaching a consensus among participating countries on several key issues.
As the President's representative noted, the issue of entrusting Azerbaijan with the mission of ensuring consensus at the upcoming conference may be raised by the Turkish side and a number of international organizations. It is expected that final clarity on this matter will emerge in the coming months.
