Embassy of Azerbaijan in the UK responds to The Guardian publication

Gunel Salimova, Counselor at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the UK, has sent an official letter to the editorial board of The Guardian. In her address, the diplomat expressed disagreement with the content of an article published by the outlet, characterizing the author's position as biased.
The letter notes that the film mentioned in the article contains chauvinistic theses and does not reflect the actual state of affairs. According to Salimova, when covering the former conflict, it is necessary to take into account the tragedies experienced by the Azerbaijani people, as well as the humanitarian and social consequences of the occupation, including the ongoing threat posed by landmines.
The diplomat emphasized that the root cause of the conflict was the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, and that in 2020, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity.
The document also highlights progress in relations between Baku and Yerevan. According to Salimova, the leaders of the two countries have discussed concrete results in the sphere of normalization of relations during recent meetings, including the restoration of trade ties, border delimitation, and the implementation of regional infrastructure projects.
The Azerbaijani side calls for focusing not on the disagreements that arose as a result of the past conflict, but on positive steps aimed at strengthening peace, cooperation, and mutual trust in the region.
