The United States has restricted Russia's ability to use the dollar as a reserve currency. This was announced on September 8, 2026, by Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
According to the Kremlin representative's statement, these actions by Washington were the reason why Russia was forced to reorient toward using its own financial instruments and transition to settlements in national currencies.
